    Internet Explorer 4 for AlphaNT?

Ive recently installed WinNT4 server on my Alpha 164lx, with 512mb ram
and 20GB Hdisk, and I was surprised to find the GIMP, Winamp, Quake2
etc for the platform. This is not a busy platform at all but at least
Internet Explorer shoud've been available for it. Microsoft is pushing
everyone to 6.0 and to Windows2003.

Does anyone know where I can get Internet Explorer 4? I'm running
Mozilla, old an dclunky, upgraded IE to 3.0 from a alphant.com link,
but still need either Internet Explorer 4.0, Opera or Firefox for
serious browsing. Anyone has links?

Thanks.

Three solutions I can think of:
-Run Firefox or IE 6.0 on top of FX!32
-Build Firefox for NT4 on Alpha
-Put a decent, err, recent OS on the 164lx and use a recent browser.
I run Mozilla (and VMS) on a Digital Server 5305 and have no performance
problems.
But the 5305 runs faster than a 164lx, so that's not a good example. 5305's
are pretty
cheap though, sometimes you can get them for free because "white box alpha's
only run NT" :-)

I have a copy of IE4, it's just over 50MB if I can get a place to upload it
to. There was a version of IE5 for AlphaNT, but I seem to have lost the
install files for it :/

Even if you can find a copy of IE5, I'd still install IE4 first, as there
are a few GUI enhancements that came with IE4 that didn't come with IE5.
Yes, it's odd, but I've always assumed that said enhancements were already
part of the GUI by the time IE5 came out so they weren't included...

IE4 came with one of the service packs, didn't it? We had the service
pack 5 CD way back when, which contained both Alpha and intel versions
of the SPs and IE4. If you have an (older) service pack CD for NT, take
a good look at it and you might find what you need. Unfortunately ms
dropped Alpha support very soon after IE5 was released; I had IE5 on one
box, but it was very troublesome compared to IE4, and they never fixed
the problems under Alpha.

Sorry, all that equipment and media is gone, so I can't help you get it.

Rich
