FWIW, I've used many different Linksys and NetGear products over the years,
and while Linksys support might not be very good for some of their newer and
/or more advanced products, NetGear's support is universally awful, unhelpfu
l, and time-wasting.
As far my experience with their products themselves, the Linksys stuff has a
lways been solid and runs forever, plug it in, configure and forget, whereas
the NetGear stuff burns out (either the unit or power supply) about every s
ix months. I've got a few different NetGear units in production including t
his one, and once I run out of units and/or power supplies (whichever goes f
irst) I won't be buying NetGear again.
I'm hoping the Linksys RV042 will do what we've been looking for: supply a d
ecent firewall with IPsec VPN capability that works with the Windows 2K or X
P VPN client, without having to buy additional client VPN software. I've tr
ied the NetGear (very bad) and the AdTran NetVanta series (expensive and equ
ally as bad) without luck, so I'm down to the Linksys RV042 right now, but h
aven't come across any sucess stories yet (nor horror stories, which is more
than I can say for NetGear or AdTran.) Cheers, Rob
