[INFO] Proposal for Hashcash implementation |

Hi all !
To allow for smooth integration of hashcash anti-flood measures into the
remailer network and to develop a standard I would like to propose the
following:
A remailer which requests hashcash for news postings bears the indicator
"hcnews" in the capstring.
A mail2news gateway which requests hashcash has mail2news-hashcash@xxx.xxx
as address.
The resource should not be more than 20 characters to avoid line wrapping
of the hashcash token.
These simple guidelines will avoid confusion, and allow client programs to
implement automatic hashcash token insertion.
In accordance with this the Panta Rhei Remailer now has "hcnews" in the
capstring. Pingers please update the capstring.
I have released a new JBN2 mod which can automatically insert hashcash
tokens for posts via Panta and the banana hashcash mail2news.
Any feedback about it would be highly welcome. It is available at
www.panta-rhei.dyndns.org
I hope this is acceptable,
Cheers,
panta-admin

That's pretty harsh, but I guess you're entitled to your opinion. Panta has
no way of forcing anything on anybody, and I think he knows that. Hashcash
is but one idea for minimizing the problem of remailer abuse, plain and
simple. If you have a better idea for keeping the remailer network from
being blocked into oblivion, please let us know.

That's pretty polite, but I guess you are too. ;)
The simple truth of the matter is that Panta Admin seems to be working
toward a solution that makes Hascash an easy to use option for those who
chose it, and completely inconsequential for those who do not. Both the
caps string and the JBN mod are steps that make Hashcash more seamless,
and less likely to cause lost mail.
It's a laudable effort. Thanks P.A.! When do you sign the adoption
papers for JBN? <g>
Which brings a little nit pick to mind... would it be at all possible to
persuade you (Panta Admin) to adopt some sort of conventional file
naming format? I realize you're not performing heart surgery on JBN and
HashcashGUI, but it might save some confusion down the road if we could
distinguish between the old and the new at a glance with archive file
names like... hcpanta-01.zip, *-02, ... and/or jbn214p01.zip, *p02, etc.
Something along those lines.

Yep, got confused myself sometimes, now have the date of upload in the
filename of the zips.
Inside you can check the changelog to see whats new.

So you're "neither confirming nor denying" that there may be some
official support for JBN on the horizon? ;)
You know you want it... that bundle of joy disrupting your life, the
"admirations" of everyone who sees you and your little one strolling
down the information dirt road...

Please ignore the person using my nym. It's a spillover from a stupid
troll war on another group and an attempt to discredit me and another
person. Any posts using my nym will be pgp signed by the
nymserver....the best he managed to do with that was a pathetic cut
and paste of the sig.
Panta admin, that's perfectly acceptable and thanks for your JBN mods.

I think Adam was working on a 'guerrilla' build of mixmaster to
incorporate hashcash (Len and the mixmaster team were reluctant to add
new functionality to mixmaster with the comming of mixminion). I lost
the messages when I upgraded my e-mail client, but maybe you two should
get in touch with each other. I am sure Adam would like to know about
your efforts!
Highest Esteems,
Thomas
