Never try to NFS mount from Solaris to HPUX or vice versa.  There's a
lot more trouble brewing than just the usernames -- HPUX seems to use a
different size (in terms of bits) integer for the UID, so when you mount
the filesystem you see UIDs without users, users who "own" files they
shouldn't, and various other horrors.  Now, maybe this was just my
particular case and doesn't happen between all versions of Solaris vs
all versions of HPUX, but it can definitely happen in some cases.
Something to keep in mind.
