Does anyone know of any good software that will back up
linux file systems to DVD?  I've tried backuponcd with
a Plextor DVD external drive, but cdrecord doesn't support
that drive.  I'm hoping there's some commercial software
that runs independently of cdrecord that supports Plextor
drives.

You want to use dvdrecord instead of cdrecord.
