I obtained Windows Server 2003 through the program at my college. My plan is
to use it to learn how to administer a Windows based LAN by networking my
desktop and 1 or 2 laptops at home and then leave it set up. However, I am
unclear on how the server licensing works. Do I need to purchase licenses
for the laptops just for a training/home network like this? If so, how much
do licenses cost? Are licenses specific to software that will be used or
based solely on the number of clients that will be connected? My client(s)
will be running the OEM operating systems that they shipped with (WinXP). At
no time will this network be used for any business purposes.

Any info anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Rob

I'd be very surprised if you were able to get hold of a Windows Server 2003
license which did not allow at least five clients.

However, this question would be better addressed to a group about Windows
rather then WWW servers that run on Windows - or just ask Microsoft.
