|
| I just manually copied and pasted the files in place. I
| manually deleted the above two files, got the windows executable and
| installed from that. TOR now starts fine, no problems.
|
| Thanks for the Socratic question, that did the trick.
I don't remember installing OpenSSL on Windows XP home edition. Yet TOR
008 works fine! Maybe it uses Windows native crypto facilities instead..
| Now in process of reading documentation for setup. Not quite
| sure yet what exactly privproxy does. Seems like TOR operates
| somewhat similarly to JAP or like Secure CRT for SSH, both of which I
| already use.
|
| Just a quick look does not reveal privproxy's purpose other
| that "cleanup?"
Well, privoxy hides things like which browser you use and it makes sure
the DNS requests go through TOR (a DNS request is used to translated an
internet address or URL to an IP address, it can't be a good thing if
your ISP sees which IP's you request DNS entries from or if the local
DNS server at the site you visit translates the URL for you (not sure if
this is how DNS servers work, but they could IMHO)).
| I'm sure that more questions will follow. Thanks.
Questions is what this group needs!
| ---------------------------NEW MESSAGE-------------------------------:
| The above posting was from another group. The problem was solved as
| described above. I am in the process of reading the documentation and
| setup, hopefully what you have written will be understandable to me
| once that i have read the documentation. thanks for the information.
Hope it helps you get anonymous,
Thomas
