Yes, it is extremely important to update the writer's firmware to the latest
version. Also make sure that no other software is running that is actually
"abusing" the regular functions of a common CD/DVD writer (e.g. converting a
CD-RW into a regular harddisk in the Windows Explorer), that sorta things.

Gear is a company that is specialized in developing software for CD- and DVD
recording purposes. In Drive Image 7.0 it plays an essential role in
directly accessing a CD/DVD to write an image onto it...

On the site below you will find a summary of all drives that is supported by
the Gear engine:

Please, do not compare the Drive Image 7.0 method of writing to a DVD with
the one of programs like Nero, Sonic or whatever program, simply, because
the technique of building a backup differs entirely from the one used by
other software. Drive Image 7.0 creates primarily a snapshot of the volume
to be image and from that on it writes an image sector be sector...

So, I would suggest to, at least, disable all software like InCD, DirectCD,
Virtual CD and all other similar 'tricks'...
Similar software may very well lead to this error, still unknown for,
officially, the cause of the error is still to be discovered...
