Basically, how do you do it?

Our server is running IIS 6 on a Windows 2003 server and we used to be
running IIS 4 on a Windows 2000 server. We had Indexing Service running (I
believe; it was working before I got here) and we've recently moved the
server and would like to restore the search service. We accessed the search
features by sending the results of a search form to an address like: (
http://site_root/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/general/search.html ).

Could anyone shed some light on this problem for me? Thanks!

You still can use indexing services, it's just not documented very well.

Thanks for the link; that does pretty much what I need.

But, does anyone know of a free/open source solution to this? I am a fairly
seasoned ASP programmer and I think I could write my own ASP, I just don't
know how to query the index service using ASP.

Thanks.

That's all documented in MSDN ...

Might also look at:

http://www.simongibson.com/

for some pre-done search scripts you can modify.
