There's no hardware problem I can detect (the machine is an IBM
Netfinity server and all the diagnostics check out fine). I
already run decent anti-virus (symantec corporate) software with
daily updates.

Reliable is already in the start folder - but programs in the
start folder do not run until someone logs onto the machine. My
machine runs Windows 2000 server as part of a domain. When the
machine boots it sits there waiting for a user to log on - and
until a user logs on, Reliable is not running. My MTA (and my
news server) runs as a service so it runs immediately the
machine boots and all the mail is received as normal - it's just
not processed until I log on and reliable starts up.

I have already modified the source code and recompiled reliable
to fix the few bugs that are present in the last release and add
the same small improvements as most other remops.

If you can modify Reliable to run as a service (so it loads
under the system at boot time) then no problem. I've tried the
programs that attempt to run exectuables as a service
(FireDaemon) however they don't appear to work.
I may have a play at reconfiguring the server to run as stand
alone rather than as part of the domain (and then automatically
logging in on boot up), however this will involve me
reconfiguring a lot of the machine and associated software, so
it may still be down for a while. Perhaps Linux is the better
option.
