Cannot seem to configure RedHat 9.0 with a 16meg Viper550.
When I did the install, the chance to test the graphical interface never
happend,
went straight to the make the boot disk option.
Good thing I picked the text logon I guess.

When I instantiate X, the log file sez
"Fatal server error:
no screens found."

There is no XConfigurator in RH9, so I need to modify the XF86Config file
I would think.
Does anyone have a XF86Config file for the Viper 550 I could cut-and-paste?

Visit; http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_...2_1.0-6111.html

See the text README (link at site above) for more detailed instructions
before starting.

Hint: From the console (as root) type something like; wget
http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/...k
g1.run

all one one line with a space after wget and before http

Did download the file, ran "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1.run"
got an error "saying source kernel files were not loaded,
nvidia.o could not load".

OK fine.

Grabbed the RH9.0 CD, mounted it,
did "rpm -ivh kernel-source-2.4.20-8.i386"
no errors upon unpacking.

Tried to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1.run again
- same error in the same part of the process.

Did a "rpm -qv kernel-source-2.4.20-8.i386"
Message said it was NOT loaded BUT
rpm -ivh kernel-source-2.4.20-8.i386 responds with a message
saying it can't be installed because it already IS installed.
Which is it?

To be expected, the kernel-source package will not be in the RPM database
normally. Verify that the /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8 directory exists and
contains sub-directories and files.

Yep, to be expected, see above.

I will check that, but if the files don't exist in
/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8, what do I do?
