Hi

I am running Debian Sarge on my laptop, and have been very pleased with the
performance. Kernel 2.6.8.1

Today, when I started up my laptop, I noticed that I see wierd empty boxes
(the kind one gets in a spam email which has some embedded international
fonts not installed on the system) where text used to be (superkaramba) and
when I open up a konsole for work, I get the message :

Font
`-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso10646-1'
not found

Check README.linux.console for help.

The above was verbatim (including the two dashes between "norma" and "15".

The font that does show up in the terminal is legible but a little kludgy
looking compared to the font I had earlier.

In SuperKaramba, I was using chicago.ttf (which I downloaded from the net
and has worked perfectly for the past many weeks). The title of the
terminal window (also in chicago.ttf) appears to be full of empty boxes.

In my /var/log/XFree84 :

Could not init font path element /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo, removing from
list!
Could not init font path element /usr/lib/X11/fonts/extra, removing from
list!

I scrolled up and found :

(**) FontPath set to
"unix/:7100,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100
dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1,/u

/ex
tra,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Mac,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/greek,/usr/local/emacs/share/e
mac
s/fonts"

Now,

# ls /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Mac/
Fontmap chicago.pfb encodings.dir fonts.dir
chicago.afm chicago.ttf fonts.cache-1 fonts.scale

which indicates that the font is present in the font path.

and

# xset -q

I have not modified my font path for ages now. Could anyone help me locate
the source of this problem ?

Thanks.
