Did you try backup to a DVD+R?  There will be less problems than a
+RW.  I had experience with DI 7 on a rewritable and had to do a
COMPLETE erase of the RW (not just a quick erase).  It took a long
time to erase.

Try a DVD+R and let us know if that works.
