    Possible to Reset Permissions?

It seems as if my permissions on my web site are all
messed up.

I tried to add a user and give them Browse permissions on
a subweb. Everything went fine. Then I tried to add a
second user ('direct') with Browse permissions and I
received this error:

Error adding one or more users: the following user names
already exist: 'direct'.

I've checked and re-checked and that user is not listed so
I don't know why it's telling me that - and why I can't
add that user. Since then I've tried to add a 3rd user
with browse permissions on the subweb and that one worked
fine. (But it still won't let me add the 'direct' user
account.)

Also, it won't let me delete an account, even though it
lists it in the account list. I'm getting this error:
Error removing one or more users: the following user names
do not exist: username

Neither my host or I can figure this out. So, is there a
way for me to reset my permissions and just start over?
I'm hoping that would help as we cannot figure out why I
can't add that user - and delete that other account.

Recommend you look at a database solution
See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=321439

They already have hundreds of HTML pages in their subweb
that are protected by FrontPage security. To utilize a
database solution, I would need to recode all those pages.
Is there another solution?

When their site was on a Linux server, it was very easy to
delete a user and to re-add them back in at a later time.

Contact your host to see if they support any other control panel means
IMHO recoding hundreds of pages once is a lot faster that addind/deleting sc
ores of users each month
