The following updates are from the Internet-based Distributed Computing
Projects website ( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distributed/ ).  These updates
cover public distributed computing projects (projects in which anyone can
participate).

October 12, 2004

- ( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distribute...ml#fermatsearch )
Distributed Search for Fermat Number Divisors found a new factor,
89 * 2^472099 + 1 divides F472097, on October 5.  This is the third-largest
Fermat factor known, and is the only factor discovered so far in 2004.

- ( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distribute....html#lhcathome )
LHC@home installed a new database server yesterday: the project is running
normally again

- Phil Carmody, the owner of the
( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distributed/ap-math.html#pies ) P.I.E.S. project,
has also blocked another of his project websites from viewers (and potential
participants) in the US, the UK, Australia, Denmark, and other countries
which "support the US's war on Iraq."  The other project is a
( http://fatphil.org/maths/GFN/index.html ) pre-siever for
( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distribute....html#genfermat ) Generalized
Fermat Prime Search.

Distributed Folding's CASP6 contest entries will be available in January,
2005

- version 4.12 of the
( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distribute...orms.html#boinc ) BOINC
platform client is available for Windows, Linux, Mac OSX and Solaris as of
today.  This version should fix the upload problem some
( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distribute...html#setiathome )
SETI@home users have had.

- version 4.41e of the
( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distribute...ience.html#muon ) Distributed
Particle Accelerator Design client is available as of yesterday: it fixes a
bug in the previous versions

- version 3 of the ( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distributed/ap-math.html#32n1 
)
3*2^n-1 Search llrp4 client (for Pentium 4 users) is available as of
October 10.  This version fixes a bug in version 2 which causes the client
to skip all numbers with an even k multiplier.  If you are using llrp4 for
this or another project, you should upgrade to version 3.

- special version 2.0 of the
( http://www.aspenleaf.com/distribute...html#sierpinski ) Seventeen
or Bust client is being tested for BeOS.  This version has the same speed
improvements for users with CPUs which support SSE2 (Pentium 4 and AMD64)
as the 2.0 version for Windows.
