I've been having problems with server extensions since i began using
them at work 2 months ago. For whatever reason when i create users for
a a site on my web server (Im running II6 on windows 2003 server with
sharepoint services set up) the users arent able to open the site
using front page 2003. Ive created several user accounts with all
roles except for administrator, but when ppl try to access this site
with front page it gives them a permissions error. I've tried a File
-> open site and in IE File-> Edit with microsoft front page but no
luck on either. I can however open the sites with my server admin
login, but i want my customers to be able to open them and make
changes.

Ive read all of the microsoft articles i can find and read tons of
newsgroups and forum topics related but ive yet to find a resolution
to this problem.

Also, I think this might be related but when i create a form on a site
then click submit. I always get

"FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a
web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you
publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server
Extensions installed."

Im not even trying to email the results anywhere i just want to get a
confirmation page working.
I dont know whatelse to do, it seems microsoft has turned its back and
moved on from server extensions so any help would be greatly
appreciated.

When I first saw this earlier, I thought "Oh, My, G__! What was he
thinking?" Straight out of the TV commercial. (Fortunately, I can't
remember the product!) And, really, I don't want to know what you were
thinking.

As others have undoubtedly told you, you can't have a virtual server
extended with two sets of server extensions. So, if you have extended
the virtual server with SharePoint server extensions, and created a
portal and all that, and then published a FrontPage web to an unmanaged
path; Of course, it goes without saying, that none of the FrontPage
components requiring FPSE will not work. The FPSE can not be configured
to the virtual server that has already been configured to use
SharePoint. If you want those functions supported in your web, you will
have to use the SharePoint WebParts that will provide them.

The technical details of the use and abuse of SharePoint are very poorly
supported on the Microsoft newsgroups. It is like the Product People
said, because we don't have our own platform, let the ones who do
support it. Of course, the platform people do not have a clue, either.
However, you will get the most sympathy in your misery in the
Public.SharePoint.Portalserver and
Public.SharePoint.Portalserver.Development newsgroups. Your problems
are definitely not a FrontPage Server Extensions problems.

Sorry. Error on my part. I thought we were running sharepoint services
but when i actually looked for it in add/remove programs on the
webserver it wasnt there. Im pretty new to the server side of website
development. im used to just doing the designing. Basically, what im
trying to accomplish is to allow one of my customers to use frontpage
2003 to open their site and edit the content on some of the pages. We
host their site on our server in addition to several other sites.
windows server 2003 with IIS6. I've gone into the FPSE 2002 Server
Administration page. (fpadmdll.dll) and clicked Administration next to
the site i want to work with. From there I went to site administration
for this site. I've added a user with Advanced authoring properties.
But when I try to connect to this site using frontpage. It wont
authenticate me. Even if i log in as the administrator of the
webserver. I have no clue as to what to try next. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am not at all the expert on authentication. But I do recall that
FrontPage, at least since 2002, has been using groups and roles to
manage permissions. If you want to use individual permissions you have
to do something with the registry. So, try putting your user in the
Authoring group. You should find, in the local users management
console, a list of groups that are defined on the box. Look for
something like <virtual server name>Authors, and one for
Administrators, and Browsers, and Contributors. Put your user in the
Authors group.

If this doesn't fix the problem, then start a new thread with a subject
about Authentication, not SharePoint, which tells FPSE experts it is
not for them.
