Hi,

In my implementation I need to display the sale price (if one exists) on the
product detail page. How can this be accomplished outside of the basket?

You can display it from the catalog. Catalog system will need to have the
sale prices for different items.

So are you saying that each product needs a "sale price" property?

Actually, this can be done another way. You can create the sales price as a
discount in the discount engine. Then you can setup a pipeline for
processing a fake basket with only the item in it. The end result is that
you get a price for the individual item without the item being in the user's
basket.
