I cannot add normal user to the FTP site.
The IIS seems fine and everything looks ok.
The server is a Windows 2000 Sp4 with all the latest patches.
I have even rebooted the server but no luck.

Any gurus wanna answer this one.

If you need grant login, the user doesn't to be an operator. try this kb.
Err Msg: 530 User <Username> Cannot Log In. Login Failed.

No matter what. One should be able to add the operator to the ftp site. This
is ceratinly a bug in MSFT product.
I am still amazed that there must be other users who must be having the same
problem and no one has complained much.

Anyway, The only way I would like to do it by adding the
site operator option. I am sure there is a solution somewhere and someone
has solved it. Just hoping someone can reply with the exact solution.

Ok. going back to this so called 'bug' by you.
you must be able to reproduce it, have you try it on other machines ?
I have few w2k sp4 boxes, I can add in operator for ftp, web, smtp and even
nntp.

any error msgs when you adding the user ?
event log ? have you try restart IIS services and see if account was added ?

without any repro steps and exact error msgs, we don't know how to trace it.
so far, I have seen 2 cases (including yours) about this.

Bernard,

I have the same problem as well but i got around it using your suggestion of
adding user to local login policy.

it is weird that there is nothing in the event log and there are no error
messages when trying to add site operator

best regards.

Well, you could open a case with microsoft directly. if this is a bug, you
won't be charge. Next, can you try to get metaedit and open the metabase, do
a search on the operator, see if you could add one there....
HOW TO: Download, Install, and Remove the IIS MetaEdit 2.2 Utility
