I think the advantages of "high-quality" tape over USB discs are
somewhat debatable for an individual rather than a commercial user.
You can buy two 80 gig discs for less than $150 each if you wish to
rotate media or store off-site. I have seen no indication of errors on
reasonably carefully handled discs tho' I'll admit that's hardly a
statistically significant sample and discs do break down :-). IMHO,
the major advantage of tapes is that they require less careful
transportation and are thus more suited to extreme conditions. If you
feel the need for storing many archival states, I suppose eventually
there would be a cost advantage to tapes. I can't discuss relative
speeds but I think discs are faster.
