That's the staging folder -it's used for replication to reduce the
likelihood of data corruption among other things.

Why are you deleting it?

when ever I create a new DFS link, an NTFRS folder is created for that link
in the dfs root folder and never goes away. i have to manually delete the
folder from the dfs root folder... i have attached a screenshot of it. if
anyone know how to fix this that would be great, thanks!

because, we don't have replication enabled on any of the dfs links and the
folder stays visible on the dfs share forever until it is manually removed
and it is confusing the users

This is occuring because you have FRS enabled on the root, which is
something we recommend against.

For more information about why replicating a root is not recommended, see
the DFS FAQ at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsser...ew/dfsfaq.mspx.
.
The question you want is called:

Q. If I use multiple root targets in a domain-based DFS namespace, do I need
to enable replication on the root?

For technical information about how DFS creates its own structures on each
root target, see the section "Root Folder and Link Folder Creation Process"
in the DFS Technical Reference at
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...
tr_dfs_how.asp
