I already had an existing page which my boss had created before I came to
work for the company I am with . I have recreated the entire web-site and
cannot get it to publish on top of his. What do I need to do?

Why won't it publish?  Is the Publish command greyed?
If so, then you need to open a web (File->Open Web/Site) containing your
updated pages, then publish the web.
