Tonight, I'm suddenly not able to log into my linux partition on my
laptop. I shut it down cleanly a couple of days ago and spent the
interim time playing games under Windows. Then, I tried to log back
into FC2, tonight, and I get a weird result.

I get the normal nVidia splash screen, and when X is supposed to start
(along with KDE), instead I get a screen that's black along the top
quarter, and white throughout the rest.

If I tap keys, it will drop me down to terminal mode and if I type
"startx", I get the same white/black screen and this time I can't drop
back down to the terminal.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop running FC2 with an nVidia GeoForce
440 video card. I haven't updated my drivers since I first installed
FC2 (over the summer). I think I'm running on a 2.6.8 kernel.

It was all working just a few days ago. The last package I installed
was "Webmin", but, I didn't fiddle with any graphical settings as part
of that (I used it to configure my firewall and a few other network
options).

I had rebooted it and had X working _after_ I installed and used
Webmin. The last time I booted into linux, I simply used it for
e-mail/web-browsing.

Gwen
