Kudzu is broken in my install. It's been basically "forever" (I don't
remember it ever working, since first installing RH8 on my laptop). I
finally decided I just wanted to get all the niggling issues cleared
up.
Here's the error message I get when I try starting kudzu:
kudzu failed. The error was: Checking for new
hardware/etc/init.d/kudzu: line 43: 4421 Segmentation fault
/usr/sbin/kudzu $KUDZU_ARGS -t 30
[FAILED]
I've routinely updated kuzdu over time (via apt and yum).
[localhost 8] goldmoon > rpm -q kudzu
kudzu-1.1.95-1
I'm running on FC3 with a Fedora kernel (2.6.9-1.681_FC3). I've also
had the same problem under a vanilla 2.6.8 kernel from kernel.org, and
a progression of earlier Red Hat/Fedora kernels going back to those
installed by RH8/RH9/FC2) and updates through yum.
Googling on the error message, I find two bugs. One claims a fix back
in 1.1-17.1 in August of 2003. The second was from May of this year
and the person who posted the bug "fixed" things by downgrading to a
previous version and then updating to the most recent version, again.
That didn't work for me. I'm not even sure where to go from here,
because posting a bug message seems to involve being willing to post
staces (stack traces, I guess?), which is getting much more technical
than I'm aware how to do .
