If you have RH8.0 or RH9, and use a dialup modem connection for access
to the 'net, then please post the contents of ifcfg-ppp0, usually found
in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0. (Anonymize as necessary.)
Thank you.
redhat-config-network does not create ifcfg-ppp0 when configuring a
USB modem. It complains "No modem found!", even though kudzu at boot,
/etc/sysconfig/hwconf, and /proc/bus/usb/devices all agree that the
modem really is there. When I ignore the warning, and go ahead anyway
with /dev/input/ttyACM0, then many things get setup correctly, but
the modem connection cannot be activated: "Failed to activate ppp0
with error 28". This is a cryptic way of saying "Cannot find ifcfg-ppp0."
