I have a RH 9.0 box which I have connected to a 15" SVGA monitor. During the
installation the monitor was probed correctly and I set the resolution to
1024x768. I have now moved the computer to another office with a 14"
monitor. The problem is when RH has booted and waits for me to login, the
display is flickering and it`s not possible to read anything. This is
probaby because the monitor is not able to use the same sync and resolution
configuration

How can I fix this without installing RH again?

Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and change the maximum resolution to a valid value. Alexander -- Alexander Dalloz | Enger, Germany PGP key valid: made 13.07.1999 PGP fingerprint: 2307 88FD 2D41 038E 7416 14CD E197 6E88 ED69 5653

You have several console text editors available, maybe some of them are installed already(vi, nano, mc, pico, ed, elvis etc.) May I suggest you try using mc; Look on the CD's, locate and install the mc (midnight commander) RPM, it's on the second CD. As root; To mount the CD as root type something like; mount /dev/cdrom To get to where the mc RPM package is located type something like; cd /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS Install mc by typing; rpm -Uvh mc*.rpm When done start by entering the command 'mc' without the quotes. Or you could simply type 'redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig' without the quotes if your using Red Hat Linux 9 or 'Xconfigurator' for other earlier versions of Red Hat Linux. -- If it's Thursday it must be Micro$oft patching day!!!

You can switch to the console after booting by pressing Strg+Alt+F1. Alexander -- Alexander Dalloz | Enger, Germany PGP key valid: made 13.07.1999 PGP fingerprint: 2307 88FD 2D41 038E 7416 14CD E197 6E88 ED69 5653
