I have a RH 9.0 box which I have connected to a 15" SVGA monitor. During the
installation the monitor was probed correctly and I set the resolution to
1024x768. I have now moved the computer to another office with a 14"
monitor. The problem is when RH has booted and waits for me to login, the
display is flickering and it`s not possible to read anything. This is
probaby because the monitor is not able to use the same sync and resolution
configuration
How can I fix this without installing RH again?

Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and change the maximum resolution to a valid
value.

You have several console text editors available, maybe some of them are
installed already(vi, nano, mc, pico, ed, elvis etc.)
May I suggest you try using mc;
Look on the CD's, locate and install the mc (midnight commander) RPM, it's
on the second CD. As root;
To mount the CD as root type something like; mount /dev/cdrom
To get to where the mc RPM package is located type something like; cd
/mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS
Install mc by typing; rpm -Uvh mc*.rpm
When done start by entering the command 'mc' without the quotes.
Or you could simply type 'redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig' without the
quotes if your using Red Hat Linux 9 or 'Xconfigurator' for other earlier
versions of Red Hat Linux.

OK, but the problem is I can not get to the command promt! All I see is the
flickering screen! How do I exit the log on screen and enter text mode?

You can switch to the console after booting by pressing Strg+Alt+F1.
