hi,
So I built a new kernel for my RH9 machine.
In grub.conf there must be a line for it like

keernel ....... ro root=/dev/had1

or something like that.

How do I find out, what must be behind "root=" ?

The original kernel has roor=/LABEL=/

but that does not work for the new kernel .

frgr
Erik

Erik, The /dev/hda1 or something like it is the partition that contains the / filesystem, it can be found in /etc/fstab or by the df command. Regards, Jan Gerrit Kootstra

If you haven't screwed something up "make install" should add the entry to grub for you. (in addition to copying the kernel to the right place) -- NPV "the large print giveth, and the small print taketh away" Tom Waits - Step right up

make install is not exclusively for lilo ? I got that impression from the howto's... does it edit grub.conf too ? I use grub. frgr Erik

Mine does. It does for the kernel sources from redhat, I don't know for certain if it does for kernel.org kernels though, but I believe it does. Your faq may be outdated, or if this is a redhatism it may be a general one. -- NPV "the large print giveth, and the small print taketh away" Tom Waits - Step right up
