I've set up Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 on an IBM ThinkCentre and it
doesn't recognize the network card and graphics card (integrated Intel
82865G video card and Pro E100 NIC). The new IBM hardware is a real
problem for Linux, especially older versions. I solved the NIC problem
by disabling the onboard card in the BIOS and installing an old 3Com
card, but I can't get the graphics to work right.

During installation I tried to find an entry for VESA Framebuffer, but
couldn't find one. I choose SVGA graphics which failed when startx was
run. I used "setup" to configure the X settings and selected the
XF_SVGA server. I've tried every memory and resolution setting offered
with no luck. I get very large fonts with large pixels. I can see
maybe 10% of the screen on a 21" monitor and the display is unusable.

Is there a way to get the VESA Framebuffer? The Red Hat installation
graphics were fine and I'm assuming it uses the VESA Framebuffer.

As a better solution is there a third party X Server that supports the
latest Intel integrated graphics card? I'm going to be using this
machine for development in order to duplicate our production environment
and I need decent (not super) graphics.

Thanks.
