I am trying to configure an Windows NT4 Server as a VPN client to a vendor's
VPN server. My VPN client (the NT4 Server) is running NT4 SP6a with all the
patches applied to it. I can connect to the VPN one time, and after I
disconnect, I am unable to connect again for a certain period of time. I
would say about 15 minutes, but I have nothing to back that number up, other
than trial and error. When I try to redial I get an error 678 ("There was no
answer"), but the error returns instantly, like it's not even trying to
reconnect. I have not yet setup a sniffer to verify this, but I suspect that
the OS is not making any attempt to connect since the errors return
instantly. When I do a route print after the connection is disconnected, it
still shows the route, so I've tried deleting the route, and then attempting
to reconnect, but still get the same error. I know this problem is NT
specific, because if I connect from any Windows 2000 machine, I have no
trouble making back to back connections. I know the problem is not a
firewall problem, because my Win2k machines can connect with no problems,
and my NT4 Server does connect, even if it does need a "rest" between
connections. Does someone know if there is a connection being held open that
needs to be reset, such as the PPP adapter which is setup during the PPTP
connection? Is there a setting that I have overlooked or some registry value
that needs to be tweaked? I have done a lot of searching on this topic and
cannot find any possible resolutions, so any suggestions are greatly
appreaciated.

Thanks
