i've read MS's documentation on how to create a receive location using an
FTP adapter. Problem is, I don't know how to use it in an orchestration. Is
there a tutorial or walkthrough somewhere? I 've googled for a couple of
hours wiht no luck, no info in Woodgate' book either.

thanks

lh,
When you use the ftp adapter you will need to create a receive port and
receive location to get the file into the messaging. Once you have the file
downloaded/parsed and in messaging you can use an orchestration. Messaging
supplies the hooks into orchestration.

You should at least complete module 1 in the tutorials to get the basics.
You can download them here http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=26435

Thanks for the response Micheal.
My question was a lil unclear. Im familiar with many of the basics of
orchestrations and files. I'm really having problems with retrieving files
using the ftp adapter. How do i instruct an ftp adapter to get a file on an
ftp server. Is there no documentation on how do this?

thanks

Once u enable the receive location, the files on the specified ftp server ar
e
pulled using the credentials provided( You provide all the ftp server detail
s
in the receive location "address")
Once file received, the msg is posted to the msgbox db. if you have a orch
running and subscribing to that specific message, the orch will process this
message.
as i understand u have flat fle on the server, u ll need a pipeline to
convert the flat file to xml and then process by the orch.
orch can perform any processing on the message only if it is xml
Hope this helps
