Hello Folks:
Can anyone who is familiar with Acronis True Image 8 tell me
how to get a saved image into the Acronis Secure Zone. I have made it
active, and there it sits, but for the life of me I can't get the
image I created into it (the image is supposed to go into it, isn't
it??) . I did read the #$!# manual, but it is very unclear on that
procedure. Any advice or info would be appreciated. Ken

Hi Ken,

I have not done it, but...

In the manual, it says:

"If you create an Acronis Secure Zone, it will be listed
after all workstation disks available for image creation and
restoration."

I will try that later today, but it seems to be saying that
when you prepare to create an image and tell TI where you
want it to be sent the Secure Zone should be last in the
list.

Have you tried that?

More later...

Hi again Ken,

I have continued to experiment with the Trial Version that I
have, and may have some info for you.

If I launch TI Corporate Desktop and click to create an
image, it asks for the partition I wish to mirror. After
checking that, it asks where I want to put it. In that list,
my first entry is the local Secure Zone.

When you do what I have describe, do you see that as a
potential destination?

BTW, as I hope is clear, I know virtually nothing about this
product. I have had the trial version for a day and am just
starting to experiment with it myself.

All the best,

Kenneth:
You know what: I must be blind. I was looking in the wrong
place. I scrolled down to the F: drive where the Secure Zone is
partitioned off in, and expected to see it there. I should have been
looking up, not down. So yes, the "first entry" was indeed the Secure
Zone. Boy, do I ever feel like a Homer. Thanks for the hint. Ken

Hey Ken,

We are in this together...<g>

I gather that you are trying to create and store the image
locally. Is that correct?

I am trying to create the image and store it on a remote
system. That seems to work just fine, but I can't figure out
how to automate the process of creating a few images in
sequence and then replacing the oldest with the most recent.

Do you have any insight into that?

All the best,

As far as I know it's not possible.

A solution may be to create a scheduled task from within Windows that
would delete backups that are, say, more than a week or two old.

Or perhaps delete old backups manually. It's probably a good idea to
check the backup process is still working, anyway, from time to time.

You should email Acronis suggesting that they add the feature you've
mentioned to a future version of True Image.

Hi Martin,

I thank you for your comments...

I posted to the Acronis website forum, and one of their
support folks responded:

"We regret to inform you that you can't set the number of
images you want to create. If you store the images to
Acronis Secure Zone without deleting the old images you will
obtain the "Acronis Secure Zone is full" error some day.

There exists the workaround for image number controlling.
You may schedule the full image creation once a week, for
example on Sunday night, and six incrementals (on Monday to
Saturday). In this case you will always have 7 image files
because the old images will be replaced with the new ones."

I have been experimenting with that idea, but do not
understand enough to make it work.

I can easily schedule a once per week full backup, but after
that, I am lost.

Might you be able to assist in deciphering this?

My confusion related to his phrase "and six incrementals."
Does that mean that I would create six distinct scheduled
incremental backups, one for each remaining day of the week?

Assuming for the moment that to be correct, then once the
cycle completed, how would the system know to start the
process again with the new full backup as the base.

I must admit that I am surprised that this seemingly very
basic feature is not available.

I would welcome your thoughts,

Yes, the Acronis way of doing things confused me for a while.

You need to create two tasks: one that will do a full backup once a week
and another that will append backups to it on the remaining six days of
the week. The Acronis Secure Zone looks after itself in the sense that
backups are appended to the last full backup made.

For the weekly task:

Go through the Schedule Task wizard.

At the "Create Image Mode" question select "Create the full backup image
archive."

At the "Start Parameters" window select "Weekly." Enter the start time
for the backup and select the day of the week you wish to create the
full backup. I chose Sunday.

For the daily task:

Go through the Schedule Task wizard.

At the "Create Image Mode" question select "Append changes incrementally
to the existing archive."

At the "Start Parameters" window select "Weekly." Yes, I know this is a
daily backup, but stick with me. Enter the start time for the backup
and select all the weekdays that you wish to do an incremental backup
on. I chose Monday through to Saturday.
