I have been getting this error on simple ASP code on my web site

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets] SQL Server does not exist or access
 denied.

The Web Server is running on NT(sp6a) and IIS 4.0
The database is on a separate Windows 2000 (Sp 4) with MS SQL Server 2000 (8
.00.760)
And the PDC on a separate NT(sp6a) server.
The application is accessed via a cisco PIX 515 Firewall.

This error appears intermittently at random times without any specific patte
rn and rebooting the PDC then web server always clears the problem.

I have replicated the application inside the firewall and this runs trouble
free so it would appear the problem is either with the web server or the fir
ewall but as I have little experience of either I am unsure where to start.

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

Apologies if this is the wrong forum – wasn’t sure where to post

Iain

Hi,

I guess this is a problem to focus on the fire wall. I have not got the same
error, but i have faced similar issues where the firewall would have network
connections for specific amount of time and then time out. A restart would
again allow firewall to keep these connections open for that specific amount
of time. Thats why when you restart the machine, you can establish the
connection. So once it is time out, your SQL Server machine is no longer
accesible and your asp page says that it could not fine the server. So as fa
r
as I know, the problem is with some configuration in the firewall.

Hope this helps
Ganesh

It could be this:
connection failures caused by pooling disablement
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;328476

caused by this:
implicit connections:
