after a successfull (?) uninstall of an initial WebSphere Portal V5.1 Extend
install, the reinstall using response file fails. the /tmp/wpinstalllog.txt
 log's last few lines are:

...
MultiPlatform.install, com.ibm.wps.install.SilentValidationAction~
~, msg1, Silent Validation Logging: Property was specified: $W(portal.locati
on)=/opt/ibm/wps51/wps
~, msg1, Silent Validation Logging: Destination is writable: /opt
~, msg2, Checking Portal destination: /opt/ibm/wps51/wps
~, msg2, Number of currently installed Portals:3 err, PortalLocationValidato
r: location invalid: installed Portal at /opt/ibm/wps51/wps matches destinat
ion /opt/ibm/wps51/wps
~, err, Silent Validation Logging: Silent validation failure. Exiting instal
l.

the /opt/ibm/wps51/wps directory does not exist anymore.

there is no documentaiton about the SilentValidationAction and the PortalLoc
ationValidator, nor about how to get rid of residues of an earlier installat
ion - which happened to be in the exact same location (path) as the the new
installation.

a) How can I clear this 'registry' entry?

b) Is this residue info related to mq installation on the system - mqm?

It may be information that is stored within the WAS install. If WAS is not
uninstalled as well, perhaps something is left there. If this is a clean
uninstall, then not a solaris expert but something is being left. I think
AIX has a software manager that might need to be cleaned, not sure about
Solaris.

If this was a clean uninstall down to nothing, then a call to support seems
the best bet. If not, perhaps try a complete removal of WAS/MQ etc.
