    Resource Gallery Problem

Hi,

I know that its the feature of MCMS to have all the resources to be uploaded
to the Resource Gallery and getting the URL with the GUID appended.

Right now, I have a problem. Our Existing website had been using Team Site
for all the CMS and uploading the documents and HTMLs in physical
directories. Since, we had to discontinue support from them, we had moved
into MCMS 2002 as MCMS is more secured and user friendly. But, the business
still wants to have the resources uploaded in a similar kind of a path as in
Channel Hierarchy and wants to use the User-friendly URL than the ugly URL
with the GUID etc., Can anyone help me out in doing this just like we do it
for the Channel and postings?

I know there should be some kind of a work around for this, like writing
ISAPI filters, etc., but please guide me with any of the samples also if any
.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Nanda,

MCMS does not have a concept for friendly URL for resources.

What you could do is to simulate something like this by implementing a
webform that streams the resource:

http://yoursite/resourcestream.aspx...al/resource.jpg

Then the webform would need to stream the content from the resource gallery.
In addition you could use a tool like ISAPIRewrite (www.isapirewrite.com) to
rewrite URLs to this format.
E.g. to rewrite the URL

http://yoursite/resources/resgal/resource.jpg

into

http://yoursite/resourcestream.aspx...al/resource.jpg

Cheers,
Stefan.

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for the reply. My question lies where would I get a URL like the
"?resource=/resources/resgal/resource.jpg". Is it possible to get a resource
file link like this (atleast) from the Resource Gallery?

Next thing is that the Business uploads few pdf documents daily into
resource galleries (and not linking into any postings). So, after a while,
they will definetly forget which pdf relates to which GUID. Since they are
much familiar with the existing architecture (with the Folder structure and
the document names also), they want a similar kind of an approach as relatin
g
the GUID and a document name would be lot much difficult. Does the
www.isapirewrite.com solve the problem that I am discussing?.

Thanks,
Nanda

Hi Nanda,

not from the resource gallery web author dialogs we ship.
You would have to implement your own dialogs to achieve this.

Cheers,
Stefan.
