I use Outlook Express to download 3 different email accounts. One is workin
g just fine. When I try to receive messages from the other two, it will tel
l me, for example, "receiving 1 of 2" and then I get an error message that s
ays,

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'Sue', Server: 'mail.whittenrealty.c
om', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0133

Please help.

This is usually down to a corrupt or over-full email inbox. Outlook Express
is not very good at holding large amounts of emails especially if they have
large attachments. I had a user this morning with a 2.5 GB inbox.

Backup/rename Inbox (C:\Documents and Settings\(User)\Local Settings\Applica
tion Data\Identities\{GIU}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\inbox.dbx -> inboxbak.d
bx).
Close Outlook Express.
Open Outlook Express.
Outlook Express will have created a whole new Inbox.
Your email should now work.

________________________________________ ______ I had this happen and did the rename of the inbox. My email is now working again. But how do I recover all of the emails that were in my inbox prior to the er ror happening ? (Forgive me, but I'm new to computers, so I need specific directions with details how to do this. Thanks.) I need to find out step by step what to do to recover my emails. Are they now located somewhere else ? How do I find them. I'm hoping they're still on the computer somewhere. Thanks for your help.

Dixie, and anyone else who tries this, just make a folder in outlook express - Right click on the local folders icon in the folders list (may have to chang e your view) Click on New Folder.. Give it an appropriate name like 'toobig' or 'oldinbox' Now you can go to: C:\Documents and Settings\[YOURUSERNAME]\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{[RAND OM#]}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\ Now you will see a .dbx file like toobig.dbx and you can delete it and renam e the inboxbak.dbx to toobig.dbx .. When you go back into outlook express th e fold should now have all your mail in it (if not it's corrupt and you're p ooched).

WOW -- Skip_Intro hasn't posted for a couple years here so he probably wont
see this thank you to him but I just wanted to let the community know that I
appreciated his very clear instructions becuase I had this very same proble
m and his instructions REALLY HELPED!!!

Later in the thread someone has written that when they went back to their in
box within Outlook Express, that they did not see the new file listed and co
uld not access their messages.

Someone responded that if the file they renamed was corrupted, they were "po
oched".

A possible work around for this is that BEFORE you rename the inbox, you MAN
UALLY tranfer the messages in your Inbox to another folder in Outlook expre
ss.

When you rename the inbox.dbx file it will still be huge but the message HAV
E actually been saved in these subfolders within Outlook Express.

I hope that makes sense.

I would have been pooched like the other user but I did the above and it wor
ked.

Thanks.
